CS - EDUCATION - EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY
The education philosophy of a Connected School aims to be as holistic as it can be through appropriate use of technology to serve teaching & learning.
The aim is to foster creative & innovative minds without forgetting that they need to achieve their potential when assessed, and without forgetting to raise their awareness of the importance of their responsibilities as members of the society they live in.
The aim is to foster creative & innovative minds without forgetting that they need to achieve their potential when assessed, and without forgetting to raise their awareness of the importance of their responsibilities as members of the society they live in.
In order to reach that goal, the education philosophy is based on social constructivism with a focus on collaborative discourse. The rationale behind that choice is that, on one hand it encourages more engaged and independent learners. On the other hand, it also matches the way a majority of the learners learn and interact outside school nowadays, i.e. through the growing use of social networking platforms.
For instance the interactive environments provided by networked computers enables Connected Schools to take the co-construction of knowledge which can take place at a classroom level, to a school-wide level and even further. One of the benefits of that outcome is that it provides a platform for learners to learn according to their stage (ability) and not only their age. As a consequence, the learners that feel confident enough (after consultation with teachers & parents) will have the opportunity to move faster through Primary School or to start working toward some of the suitable qualifications as early as year 9 or even 8. |
Obviously, the implementation of this education philosophy can only be successful because the building blocks of the constructivist approach are an integral part of the school’s curriculum in every subject.
The learners’ awareness of those building blocks (constructed, active, reflective, collaborative, enquiry-based and evolving learning) will be raised during their time in primary school. Then, the time spent in Preparatory School and the use of Opening minds Curriculum (competencies) combined with the local Curriculum (knowledge) will make those blocks an integral part of who they are and ready them for their qualification in Secondary School. |
