Recommendation by ANGELA BARCLAY

Bouba worked as a supply colleague in the 6th form of a mixed ability special school with pupils and students aged three to nineteen. The class in which Bouba had the most input comprised students with both severe and profound difficulties. Bouba also worked in to other classes within 6th form and over the primary and secondary departments, teaching students with moderate to severe learning, sensory, and physical difficulties.

Bouba impressed with his ability to differentiate not only his teaching and planning, but also his ability to differentiate questioning and checking of student understanding. Bouba teaches at a level just above the student ability, and then supports the individual student to achieve the targets and objectives of the lesson. He makes full use of IT during his teaching to enhance student understanding. Bouba is able to deliver meaningful, motivating lessons with little or no preparation. Other teaching staff members were able to continue with their own work, confident that Bouba would independently manage the class in which he was placed.

Bouba has a quiet, calm, patient manner within the classroom to which the students respond. They work well under his direction. He is very respectful towards staff and students, lightened with a happy disposition. Students with behaviour difficulties responded well to Bouba enabling them to not only remain in the classroom but also participate and comply with direction. Bouba has a wide knowledge of not only teaching practices and theories, but also of current events and topics. He relates well to all staff members, demonstrating support, friendliness and a sense of humour necessary in establishing good working relations with colleagues.

Teaching staff are looking forward to Bouba returning to the team after the break, knowing they can be confident in his ability to work as a team member, initiate his own and student work and to be able to work independently, whilst maintaining student progress and learning.
